RURAL SUPPORT PROGRAMMES NETWORK (RSPN) JOB DESCRIPTION HR#002 1.0 Position Summary 1.1 Position: Research Officer 1.2 Department/Project: Balochistan Rural Development and Community Empowerment Programme (BRDCEP) 1.3 Category/Grade: P2 1.4 Duty Station: Based at research sites in Balochistan 1.5 Reporting to: Research Coordinator, RSPN-BRDCEP 2.0 Job Responsibilities 1. Collaborate with district offices of the Rural Support Programmes and stakeholders to organize district level consultative workshops. 2. Conduct a brief ethnographic study of a selected union council in Balochistan. 3. Compile the report of the brief ethnographic study of the selected union council. 4. Conduct life history study of selected households over an extended period of time. 5. Conduct a desk review of relevant literature on the research topic and questions. 6. Conduct and record key informant interviews and focus group discussions with key stakeholders. 7. Transcribe the key informant interviews and FGDs. 8. Contribute to the thematic analysis of the content of document review, key informant interviews and focus group discussions using qualitative research analysis tools and approaches. 9. Timings of field work will be flexible and decided with the villagers. 10. Assist the Research Coordinator for implementation of research component of the programme. 11. Document case studies and lessons from the programme interventions. 12. Prepare research briefs, research papers and reports under the supervision of Research Coordinator and International Technical Advisor. 13. Assist the Research Coordinator in implementation of the research dissemination strategy 14. Any other tasks assigned by the Supervisor. 3.0 Required Qualifications, Skill and Experience 2.1 Education: Masters or higher degree in Social Sciences, Anthropology, Qualitative Research or other relevant disciplines from a reputable university. 2.2 Knowledge and Skills: - Knowledge and understanding of poverty dynamics and development issues in Pakistan. - Skills in development of qualitative research tools, research protocols and research ethics. - Skills in data analysis and writing research reports, papers and briefs. - Excellent reading, speaking and writing skills in English. Speaking of Balochi/Pushto will be an added advantage. - Computer proficient, organised, detail oriented, self-motivated, team player and able to work with minimum supervision. 2.3 Experience: - Minimum of 1 year of experience of research with focus on issues related to poverty, livelihoods, community driven local development or other relevant field. - Experience of conducting field research. - Priority will be given to candidate who has research publications in national and international journals of repute. - Candidates having completed their course work of MS/PhD and interested in long term field research will be given priority.
